Harold W. Gegenheimer Awards For Industry Service To Gary Dolgins

Reston, VA—NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies awarded its Harold W. Gegenheimer Individual and Corporate Awards for Industry Service to Gary H. Dolgins, Ulrik T. Nygaard and EFI, respectively.  The awards, named for the former NPES president and Baldwin Technology Company chairman emeritus, recognize leadership and participation in NPES and industry activities, civic leadership and technical innovation.  They were presented at the NPES 2012 Annual Conference, held November 10–12, in Indian Wells, California.

This year the selection committee determined there were two worthy candidates for the Harold W. Gegenheimer Individual Award:

• Gary Dolgins is Director of Sales and Marketing for Blanchard Systems, Inc.  He has been a longtime and dedicated supporter of NPES and our industry through his many years of volunteer contributions to the Association.  He is a past member of the NPES Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, and has served as chairman of the Program and Meetings Committee, Membership Committee, and Marketing Committee.  With a strong commitment to education in graphic arts, he has served on the advisory boards of the New York University Center for Graphic Communications and Management; Fairleigh Dickinson University; and the Graphic Arts Advisory Commission of the New York City Board of Education.  He is a regular participant at the Association’s Annual Conferences, the former Industry Summit and Print Outlook Conferences, and most recently the Vision 3 Summit.

• Ulrik T. Nygaard, is President/CEO of Baumfolder Corporation. His strong connection to the graphic arts industry has extended into three continents over 40 years of dedicated service. He has been a steadfast and enduring supporter of NPES for over a decade, having served on the Board of Directors for several terms, was longtime chair of the Government Affairs Committee, and member of the Programs and Meetings Committee and Market Data Committee. He is a regular participant at the Association’s Annual Conferences, the former Industry Summit and Print Outlook Conferences, and most recently the Vision 3 Summit.Harold W. “Gary and Ulrik embody all the best qualities of Harold W. Gegenheimer: a lifelong commitment to technical innovation, sound management, support for education and research, and tireless work on behalf of the industry,” said Ralph J. Nappi, president of NPES.  “We are honored to be able to recognize each of them for their great influence on, and many contributions to our industry.”

EFI, the Corporate Award recipient, is an industry leader in the analog-to-digital revolution with its digital print products, solutions and workflows.  Most recently EFI received three “Best of Category” MUST SEE ’EMS recognitions at GRAPH EXPO.  EFI has been a steady force in our industry in both good and bad times, always supporting industry organizations such as NPES, NAPL and Printing Industries of America. Among the variety of its involvement with NPES and the Association’s research arm, PRIMIR, EFI has been active in the work for developing industry standards with its employees serving on the CGATS Committee and USTAG Working Groups, and they have also participated in the NPES/PRIMIR Worldwide Market for Print 2012 study update. Marc Olin, who accepted the award on behalf of EFI, has provided his guidance on many committees, was an active participant on the 2012 Vision 3 Summit Advisory Group, and currently serves on the NPES Board of Directors.

“EFI has been a leader in technological innovation, working to provide efficient and cost-effective systems to the graphic communications industry,” said Nappi.  “We are grateful for EFI’s meaningful contribution to the industry—and to NPES—all these years.”

Dolgins, Nygaard and EFI each received plaques that will also be displayed at NPES headquarters.  NPES has also established two Harold W. Gegenheimer Award scholarships with the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation, to which two thousand dollars is given each year.  These scholarships are awarded to the employees, or children of employees, of NPES members who are pursuing studies in graphic communications.
